December 04 WPF at "The Panel": UniveRSS - a 3D RSS readerMicrosoft has started a site called "The Panel", where they "collect showcases of the new user experiences and provide insights on how they were implemented". Once you have registerd, you can browse these projects, try them and look at the source code. Currently there is just one WPF-project: UniveRSS, wich is a fullscreen 3D RSS reader, as shown in the attached screenshot. Go and check it out! November 06 leaving for TechEd BarcelonaI will be leaving for TechEd Barcelona. I am sure that this going to be a very interesting (and fun) week. I really have a hard time to choose what sessions to attend. There are so many I am an interested in! There are more than 200 Sessions but only 18 session slots. I'll have to choose really carefully. I will focus mainly on UI and Graphics (WPF, WinForms, XNA) and .NET 3.0.
The city Barcelona also has a lot to offer. Allthough there won't be much time, it would be cool to at least see the Sagrada Familia and the Park Güell (yes I am a Gaudi fan). If you are at TechEd too, maybe we can meet, have a beer and discuss the sessions or take a walk at the beach (yes the Convention Center seems to be pretty close to the beach). Just contact me via live messenger or mail. October 28 Jim Allchin: What did Microsoft learn from Vista?Over at Mary Jo Foley's new Blog Jim Allchin, the mastermind behind Windows Vista, talks about what Microsoft went through during the long development cycle of Vista. It's a very interesting read. It seems that Jim Allchin initialized and conducted a major reconditioning of the windows architecture as well as the windows development process. Did you know that Vista took only two and a half years? ;) I remember that headline from the Wall Street Journal last year: "It is not going to work". The article belonging to that headline described the big changes that happened at Microsoft during that time and how Microsoft "started over" with developing Vista. I'd link you to it but unfortunately it's gone. But here is Paul Thurrott reflecting on it. |
